In years past "Young Turks" was used as slang in the English-speaking world for rebellious young people acting counter to social norms (thus the Rod Stewart song). This meaning is dated now, but I always figured he chose the name as a bit of a triple-meaning pun- his background, the slang meaning, and the reference to secularization.
